eduTAP

Educational Tapping enables using smart devices to perform transactions with a simple tap — making everyday interactions easier and more secure both on campus and beyond.

Our Mission

Our Mission is to provide an interoperable solution that works for everyone.

Digital First. Campus Ready.

We are developing the digital campus card of the future for the smartphone.

For Everyone. Without Exception.

For every member of the higher education community:

  • Students
  • Faculty and Staff
  • Affiliates

Smart. Seamless. Secure.

eduTAP is your educational ID and a collection of service passes in the digital wallet.

This fulfills the interoperability vision of
the European Student Card initiative.

Project Goals

The following goals guide the development of eduTAP.

  • For Europe and the world

  • Decentralized, secure and SOTA

  • Compliant (e.g. GDPR, vendor-neutral)

  • Easy updates and maintenance

  • Accessible to all users

  • Follows European jurisdiction requirements

  • Community-governed, free and open-source software

  • Favorable adaptation possible

One Coin, Two Sides

More than just a concept, eduTAP is a community-driven project that builds on the vision to create
a European Education Area.

eduTAP the Concept
Reimagining campus identity for the digital age

Leveraging the full potential of digital wallets and smart devices to create a seamless campus experience without physical cards.

Using a divide-and-conquer principle to transform traditional campus cards into:

  • A harmonized identity pass using Verifiable Credentials (ISO/IEC 18013-5)
  • Separate service passes for individual on-site services
  • Service passes accessible via eduGAIN-Login with centralized discovery

Let service providers decide the base technology of the pass, based on their needs and security requirements

Enabling on-site service access to all members in the Higher Education Community without exception.

eduTAP the Software
Open-source solutions for modern campus needs

The eduTAP software is built by the community to enable Higher Education Institutions to:

Create, issue and manage digital identity passes for students, staff, and guests

Enable access control to services, facilities, and resources with wallet passes

Software is distributed as open source, primarily under the European Union Public Licence v. 1.2 (EUPL)

Community-driven development. Join us on GitHub to contribute.
